Story Time: Vision & Mission

Inception of Night Owl Labs was the least crazy idea.

We hear startup stories of amazing ideas going on to build unicorn startups but I have no such disruptive mentality. Probably, it comes from my upbringing in a country like India with survival culture. When you are focused on surviving, working on a disrupted idea is a privilege. You need to play safe.

Ironically, at the age of 25 I left a MNC job which was supporting my livelihood and decided to make the switch into the lucrative world of Startups. I was in Bengaluru which was then buzzing with new (that era unicorns) startups like Myntra, Flipkart etc who were locking horns with Amazon like companies. It was fascinating to see how local businesses could drive down bigger predator companies. They didn’t succeed to drive Amazon out of India but they still are leaders in this market.

I worked with Myntra building their logistics app, head full of dreams, I’d just learnt how to build Android apps and was actually getting a chance to try it firsthand. My experience at Myntra was definitely one of the unique experiences working with some of the best engineers in the world. That’s right!

In my late 20s I was actually trying to build my own startup, a marketplace for homegrown products mostly empowering homemakers. But unfortunately due to logistical issues - one of the most tough ones to crack- we had to give up on the startup! This experience thought me how to run a company for three years without actually going for funding. I was working on this full-time at the time and decided to exit after an excruciating year where we struggled to survive.

I did learn one of the biggest lessons in my life, no it wasn’t about building a company or managing a business , the lesson I learnt was a life lesson.

My whole team before departing and finding their own paths in life still supported me and it felt like a real team! Despite the failures we chose to help one another. That’s being a real team player!

When we choose teams/companies we don’t choose the interesting product or how much money we make in the future that comes later. But what we are actually choosing are the people we want to see every single day.

I am also specially inclined to work with Women Founders, folks in Climate Tech, Fem Health, Diversity and Inclusion and Local businesses making a social impact.
